At Back Lane West Alex Schady curates an encounter
between the work of Laurence North and Alison Sharkey.

The antithesis of painterly excess, both artists present
work that describes a process of control and restraint.
Painting as an act of systematic instruction or attrition,
where the self is sublimated and order maintained.
But it is not always possible to keep the paint within the lines.
A disturbance in the surface, a tremor in the hand.
Staying in control is not an easy business.
