Daisy Pooley-Tolkien

Open Evening: Thursday 28th June 2018, 5:30pm – 8:30pm

In the current climate of the questioning of genderised power structures and female experience, Daisy considers the taboos around discussing female bodies, health and reproductive experience.

Daisy Pooley-Tolkien’s practice focuses on the conversations that are only starting to come to the forefront, the conversations that women are even nervous to discuss with themselves let alone their peers. She uses her position as an artist to create a space of catharsis, encouraging women to band together and teach each other the confidence to question the supposed ‘normalities’ experienced throughout female health.

Through the meditative use of embroidery and discussion, it is hoped that women will discover new support systems alongside a realisation of liberty from the dialogue shared between old and new friends.

Daisy’s practice falls within the overlapping territories of High Art, Craft and Social Engagement. It is the collaborative result of each ‘workshop’ session that she chooses to share with the viewer, involving them too within the discourse of women’s health and the relationship felt towards it.
