The ESI/RANE Creative Exchange Programme

Exeter University’s Environment and Sustainability Institute(ESI) at Tremough, Penryn, and Falmouth University’s Research in Art, Nature and the Environment (RANE) have together initiated The ESI/RANE Creative Exchange Programme.

BACK LANE WEST is a partner in the Creative Exchange Programme. We act as both a connected, contemporary arts community that can disseminate and support information sharing about the programme, and also as a venue, project space, support, critical community, and wider audience engagement for the individual artists – and their research partners – involved with the programme.

We have worked with two artists so far, related to the programme:

Oliver Raymond-Barker – a Creative Exchange Programme collaborator with ESI researcher Dr Chris Bryan – who was BLW resident artist over the month of March 2014, and
Veronica Vickery – a PhD student researching with the Geography Department and also with the ESI

The Creative Exchange Programme aims to facilitate collaboration between creative practitioners and ESI researchers who share an interest in issues of environment and sustainability.

Through this programme the ESI is seeking to develop the region’s creative industries, inspire research and stimulate opportunities for public engagement and collaborative learning.

This April saw the Research and Creative Industries Workshop and the ESI/RANE Creative Exchange Melting Pot held at the ESI

The WORKSHOP was for creative practitioners to learn more about how they can work with universities and academic researchers to support and develop their creative practice. How do creative practitioners approach or work with researchers and academics from non-arts based specialisms? The event was arranged with help from Creative Skills, Alias, and Back Lane West.

The ESI-RANE Creative Exchange hosts regular MELTING POT events to provide an opportunity for researchers and creative practitioners to meet each other and identify shared interests. The event aims to bring together creative practitioners and research academics who share an interest in issues of environment and sustainability. The programme is a joint initiative by the University of Exeter’s Environment and Sustainability Institute and Falmouth University’s Research in Art, Nature and the Environment (RANE) research group.

We accept proposals for Creative Exchange collaborations on a rolling basis throughout the year; details about how to apply are on the links below. For more information, please contact Alex Huke – A.R.Huke@exeter.ac.uk – or Caitlin DeSilvey – C.O.Desilvey@exeter.ac.uk
