Side by Side
A film screening, LUX in partnership with Cinestar and Back Lane West

Monday 4 April, 6.30pm

Back Lane West, 9 Back Lane West, Redruth, Cornwall TR15 2BT
Admission free, please book your place via Eventbrite

LUX Cornwall, Cinestar and Back Lane West are pleased to present Side by Side, a screening of films by artists and filmmakers from the South West of England alongside a selection of works from the LUX collection.

Selected from an open call that received over 100 submissions, the participating artists have been invited to select a short work from the LUX collection that meaningfully connects to their own. Each artist will introduce their own work at the screening event, as well as provide some context for their selection from the LUX collection. The project aims to highlight interesting new work and to open an exchange around artists’ moving image practices in the region and beyond.

The programme will feature works by selected artists: Naomi Frears, Joanna Griffin, Fiona Léus Lambert, Morwenna Morrison and Carl Slater, together with films by Peter Kubelka, Michael Maziere, Alia Syed and others from the LUX collection.

The screening is presented in partnership with LUX and Cinestar as part of LUX’s current residency at Tate St Ives (18 March – 15 April). LUX Cornwall’s screening programme is supported by Film Hub South West & West Midlands, part of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery.

LUX CORNWALL ONE ON ONE ARTIST ADVICE SESSIONS:

Back Lane West – Monday 4th April at 12.00

LUX is offering a number of free one-on-one advice sessions in Cornwall. Sessions are for artists working with the moving image who are no longer in full-time education. These are informal sessions with LUX staff aimed at developing a wide-ranging dialogue around your practice and can involve any or all of the following areas:

– Looking at and discussing your work
– Advice on developing your practice and looking at other works that may be interesting in relation to this
– Advice on exhibition possibilities, appropriate organisations and events to approach
– Self-promotion advice
– Funding advice
– Production advice

Sessions usually last for one hour. You are welcome to bring work to look at on a USB stick (we have a laptop available) plus written material such as practice descriptions (although we would not advise bringing too much). At the end of the session we will ask you to fill in a short evaluation form so that we can monitor how useful the sessions are.
